When your child bites a bite chain for firm chewing need, you suspect that your child is a firm chewer. But nothing could be further from the truth. It is good to observe your child and gain insight into the chewing behavior.
Since 2013 we have been selling chew chains and we talk to customers about their chewing needs and the use of chewing jewelry. And it is precisely this that ensures that we have gained a lot of knowledge and experience in advising on suitable chewing chains. After all, the majority believe that they are a sturdy chewer and therefore need the firmest chewing chain.
Sometimes people come to us because they are disappointed by another brand of chewing jewelry. Most of these people have bought average chewing jewelry, which is sturdy, which they chew through. So it goes without saying that they think they are a firm chewer and that they need our strongest product. Some of these customers buy the Chewigem Button or the Geotag bite chain because they are “super strong”. But unfortunately, they chew through that and give up.
This is a huge shame, because presumably these chew chains were probably too tough and too hard! If chewing is too tough or too hard and you don’t get the sensory feedback you need, you’ll chew harder. The reason you chew harder is that you’re constantly looking for that sensory stimulus that isn’t there. When you bite the pendant with chewing, you get a little closer to that sensory input. But now the bite chain is broken and you have to look for an alternative. New chew chains mean more money and eventually you get frustrated with the process and give up.
How we would have liked to have talked to you in this regard. After all, we could have told you that you may not be as strong a chewer as you thought. Even if you chew a lot and often, that does not mean that you are a firm chewer and need the firmest bite chain. Each chewer has his own chewing style and must meet his own sensory needs.
Does it really matter what kind of chewer you are? Frankly, the way people chew can change from day to day, month to month, and year to year. It’s a bit like your sensory profile, it can change depending on your environment and how you feel. Maybe school or work causes you more anxiety than being at home and so chews more to help regulate yourself in those situations. Many of our customers gradually learn which chewing chain helps them best in which situation.
Going to school can be very stressful for your child. In such a situation, the Raindrop may be appropriate. But this also depends on how your child feels per day.
Chilling on the couch at home and watching TV is a more relaxed activity, at such a time a chew chain that is softer can be more pleasant, such as the Chewigem Skull. This is more pliable than the Raindrop bite chain and provides the feedback needed when your child is more relaxed but still needs chewing.
Of course, it is not easy to find out which chew chain is appropriate and when. There are so many factors at play. That is why we advise you to first send us a message (via chat or email) to see which products are most suitable.
