For children with sensory (stimulus processing) problems due to autism, ADHD, motor and/or developmental problems and giftedness, daily life can be full of challenges and barriers. Having to keep up with the speed of everyday life already requires a lot of energy. At school, they often have to deal with a large amount of stimuli. This often results in an extra need for these children to de-stimulate in order to relax.
Suzanne van der Star is a remedial educationalist and owner of Educadora webshop. During her work with children, she found out that she could respond to the special needs of children (and adults) with stimulus processing problems by offering special products, including special toys.
Weighted cuddly toys and blankets, chew toys for extra chewing (chewing reduces stress in many children and improves concentration) and much more. It is clear that a professional – with an understanding of child development – is working here; The products are clearly displayed and categorized so that parents and professionals can easily find what they are looking for. What I also like is the amount of products that a child can just take to school. The toy looks so nice that the child will at most receive positive feedback from peers.
The chewing jewelry is often multifunctional: there is the emotion bracelet that can be worn in two directions: the green side means “Talk to me!” and the red side means “Leave me alone.” Very practical to use, especially for children who find it difficult to put into words that they feel angry or want to be left alone for a while.
As a remedial educationalist specializing in stimulus processing problems, Suzanne not only supplies products to parents, but also to adults, schools and institutions. As far as I am concerned, these products should be offered as standard in many more schools for children who need them. Browsing through the webshop, I think as a parent you want to order almost everything. The sensory products vary in price, so there is something for every wallet that can help the child. In short: Highly recommended, if you ask me!
