Exercise is good for your brain

A long-term exercise program, at any age, causes significant changes throughout the body (some of which are obvious, such as heart and muscle genes) and also in the brain. Recent research shows that a lot of exercise can cause the brain to grow and become more efficient.

And even better, exercise has a positive effect on the specific brain areas that children with ADHD experience a lot of discomfort in, namely the hippocampus, basal ganglia and the frontal cortex, all of which are essential for the degree of self-regulation (controlling yourself) and executive functioning (such as planning and organizing, keeping an overview).

Tips for improving your child’s sleep

  • No TV in the bedroom
  • Turn off the blue light (all screens, including cell phones) for at least an hour before bedtime. Do not use cell phones in bed.
  • Avoid large meals just before bed.
  • Keep the bedroom, or at least the bed, just for sleeping.
  • No active sports for at least an hour before bedtime; Keep the evening calm and quiet.
