Everyone processes stimuli in a different way. One person hardly notices certain stimuli such as tapping the pencil or turning a page, while the other registers this sound strongly and becomes distracted by it.
Some children have a high stimulus threshold and some have a low stimulus threshold. Both groups of children need better regulation of stimuli in order to positively influence alertness.
For example, there are children who consciously seek out stimuli because they need them to activate their brain. These are children who want to move and fidget a lot. This has nothing to do with having too much energy (as is often thought).
But there are also children who are strongly affected by stimuli and who prefer to isolate themselves for a while to relax. These are, for example, the children who have difficulty with crowds in the hallway when entering the school or who find it difficult to shut themselves off from all the beautiful busy drawings and posters and works that hang on the walls. And then, of course, you also have children who are a bit in between, children who sometimes look for stimuli and sometimes peace and quiet.
