Stimulate gross motor skills

What is gross motor skills?

Motor skills are the ability to move. A distinction is made between coarse and fine movements. Movements in which you use the whole body fall under gross motor skills. Think of crawling, walking or throwing and catching a ball. Fine motor skills are all about fine motor movements. Think, for example, of coloring, cutting, basting, pricking, tying shoelaces.

The development of gross motor skills

You probably remember. A baby cannot control his movements properly in the beginning. Do you remember how much fun it is when they can grab a toy in a targeted way or finally take their first steps? Your child is getting better and better at improving his motor skills. Just look at how skillfully older children in the playground are getting better and better. When your child goes to school, it sometimes even masters cycling without training wheels. From the age of 6, many children master an excellent basis. Then go swimming, playing, running and clambering with them a lot, which stimulates gross motor skills.
