Music and stimulus processing

Music and stimulus processing

I think it has been scientifically researched often enough what healing and connecting effect music can have. I’ve noticed for years how fantastic music can be. Sometimes also very annoying, when I come home after a day’s work and father’s genre is a little too loud. Grr. I am mainly talking about listening to music, they are not very good at making music. I used to have a few hours of music lessons, something with a keyboard. But I haven’t discovered that urge, that curiosity in my kids yet.

Singing and listening

For years, daughter #3 has been singing occasionally. Entire serenades were made while singing, odes to a friend. Friendiiiiiiiin, so nice to play with you. Because you’re so good friendiiiiiiin. Something like that. She doesn’t know much about melody, pitch, rhythm, but she really did put feeling into music. Her way of processing feelings?? In her room, nice and alone, she sang to her friend. Very occasionally she still does. I don’t know any other topics. I always really liked that, nice that she could put value in that way. We have now found out that music and audio stories offer a solution against being alone. If she is going to do puzzles in her room for a while, or has to do puzzles, it works best with music. Showering is best when she turns on music. Long live the music box for the bathroom. She hates the idea that she has to be upstairs alone. Either we suggest it, or she herself comes up with the idea that she then turns on music. Fine. It’s a bit of a shame that she discovered Nick and Simon (sorry guys), because they are now played with great regularity. Now again the agreement that music does not have to thunder out of the room, everyone can enjoy their own preferences in their own way.

Loud noises

I do continue to find it a wonderful combination. Physically, daughter #3’s ears are not the strongest point, I think she has already received tubes 5 times. She has, especially in winter, a number of terribly transverse days, after about 3 days it turns out that she has an ear infection. I regularly sniff her ears when she stays cross, because she doesn’t seem to have any real pain the first few days, only discomfort. Hindrance that she reacts to us. She has always found sound difficult. The paver with his vibrating plate is easily 3 blocks ahead of them. Unexpected or loud noises are not her friend. Unless she can give direction herself. If she can manage the volume knob, adjust it to her own interest. Is a well-known phenomenon. Loud music also causes incredible overstimulation. Busy, busier, busiest she gets. With time to vent afterwards. She enjoys it from time to time. For example, she likes to go to a children’s disco. And we now know that she needs fifteen minutes to de-stimulate again. And then empty, but that’s part of it. I always give her a way out these days. I make sure I can pick her up. For example, she was allowed to go to the carnival celebration of school, if she would go to the teacher if it was enough. That is not necessary. And so it turns out that your biggest pitfall can also be your quality. Or can provide quality.
